How to choose a portable battery or power station

To choose correctly, keep two things apart: power in watts shows which appliances it can run, while capacity in watt-hours shows roughly how long it can keep them running.

Output power in W

Add up the power of the appliances used at the same time and check the start-up peak for motors, fridges or tools. The power station must handle both values.

Capacity in Wh

Runtime depends on capacity, consumption and conversion losses. Compare your real-world scenario, not just the biggest number on the box.

Charging and connections

Check the charging time from a wall socket, compatibility with solar panels, the input power and the types of sockets or ports you need.

List your appliances before you compare

  • Rated power and start-up peak of each appliance
  • Number of hours of use you need
  • Charging method: wall socket, car or solar panels
  • Acceptable weight and how often you will carry it

Send us your list of appliances and the runtime you need. Together we will work out the power class and the minimum capacity worth looking for.

Questions before you buy

What is the difference between W and Wh?

Watts show the power the station can deliver at any given moment. Watt-hours describe the stored energy and affect runtime.

Can I power a fridge or a power tool?

It depends on the appliance's rated consumption and, above all, its start-up peak. Both must stay within the station's limits.

Can I charge the power station from solar panels?

Yes, if the model supports solar charging and the panels stay within the voltage, current and power ranges specified by the manufacturer.
