Battery for an existing PV system

Expanding an existing system starts with the inverter already installed. Check whether it supports a battery, what voltage it uses and which BMS and communication protocol are approved.

A battery with a matching voltage or connector is not automatically software- and electrically compatible with the existing inverter.

Battery modules and management units

The cards include both battery modules and BMS units. Read the title and description: a BMS without a module does not store energy, and a module may require a separate BMS.

Clear answers

Questions before you buy

These answers explain the commercial and technical limits of the choice. The product specification and the confirmed quote remain decisive.

Can I add a battery to any PV inverter?

No. A conventional on-grid inverter may lack the necessary interface. Sometimes a compatible hybrid inverter or a separately designed AC-coupled solution is needed.

What is the difference between a battery and a BMS?

The battery module stores the energy. The BMS monitors and controls the modules and communicates with the inverter. In some product families they are sold separately and are required together.

Can I combine modules of different capacities or generations?

Only if the manufacturer explicitly approves the combination and the expansion conditions. Do not mix modules, voltages or versions based on how they look.

How much battery do I need for the evening?

Add up the consumption of the appliances used after sunset, take into account simultaneous power, usable energy and losses, then choose a reasonable reserve without oversizing.
